T3fun today announced a series of events that will challenge both new and veteran players of Hellgate Global. I am still going to play through it, but I played it at a time when life was pretty rough for me, not that any of you want a personal history, but I have to retrain my synapses to recognize the quality of the game, and not the mental associations of what was going on around me at the time. After the successful release of Hellgate Tokyo, Hellgate Global rewards its players with tons of new challenges It's still a good game, but my memories and there being no online component to it, are affecting my joy with it. It definitely seems easier so far, but I haven't spent a ton of time in it because it's like having sex with an old girlfriend only now she's lifeless and doesn't move at all while you're doing it. I was told by a friend it's a version of Hellgate: Global for anyone who's followed the game at all. I see a lot of online components in it that have been disabled, and that weren't in the original game. This version seems to be updated in some ways from the core game that was live in the US prior to Hanbit taking over. I'm also unsure if it was Brevik's or Roper's idea to nerf boss loot drops around 6 months into the game going live, but whoever did that did not help the game's sales or sub numbers. I've been told he's not the only one responsible, but at the time he certainly liked to take a lot of credit for stuff. I paid for the lifetime sub and got 2 (maybe 3?) major content updates. It didn't help that many people would sign up for the monthly sub (It was only $10/month) and I read many reports of people never even getting charged, while getting sub benefits.

Word on the street was the company (Flagship) was hemorrhaging money and the execs just couldn't figure out how to not bleed dollars. I was in a clan at the time the game was live that was pretty active on the official forums and ingame. It's just that Roper mismanaged the company along with a few other senior execs. I had dozens of characters using different builds. other would not.Įdit: Another thing I liked about the game was playing with sword/axe was just as enjoyable as using guns etc. It could never compare to today's shooters but like most games.

I still have my original install disks but if GOG released the original HG:L single player with all game levels available in single player. CPU crash on my XP box stopped my occasional game play but prior to the crash I never consider uninstalling it as it was just plain fun to play even with it's faults. I had Serious Sam, Painkiller Black and Hellgate:London installed on the same system and found myself playing HG:L more often for the quick shooter fix. I also liked the un-rushed atmosphere as sitting on a catwalk with your trusty sniper rifle was fun as was clearing the rooms/streets/tunnels. I liked disassembling your loot and upgrading your existing equipment from the resulting parts. I did like the game and felt it was a shooter/RPG combo. Backlash for the game was massive which resulted in me not following the drama but I still continued to play the game. I may be remembering this incorrectly but not having access to the final levels in single player was my harshest complaint. You could only "complete" the game using multiplayer online for a fee IIRC. I enjoyed playing the single player game except that you couldn't finish the game in single player.
